House Rules

****It is important to note that these rules ALWAYS apply, whenever anything is discussed on this site it is with the assumption this rules are being followed, further, whenever playing the game make sure to never break these rules or it will result in the breaking of your face.

Rule #1 ---The most important rule to follow, since failure to comply will equate to the Nintendo getting busted, you getting knocked out, and you never playing again. NEVER THROW THE BALL WHILE THE RECEIVER IS MAKING A CUT, SLANT or CURL EVER. The game is unplayable without this rule being followed since the offense would never be stopped. Ever.

If you dont understand the best comparison i can think of is playing NHL 94 or 95, know how if you skate out of the corner with the puck and hold slap shot and just skate across the crease it is basically a goal everytime? Well throwing on the slant routes would be just like that, how fun would the game have been 2 player if the entire goal were to just do that everytime since it was the best strategy.  Well just like that move was outlawed then, this is outlawed now.

Rule #2 --- Causing the Nintendo to freeze via controller throw, smash or whatever else (including punching the Nintendo itself, hey it's happened) is an automatic forfeit. The other teams wins the game. For the final score we make a judgement call. We used to use a 7 point per quater left system but decided to switch to a more realistic way. Controller throwing is not all that uncommon, and in general anything goes as long as you don't cause the Nintendo to mess up.

Rule #3 --- No Quaterback running. Running with the Quaterback a lot is gay and un-manly. If the Quaterback took off running everytime the offense could not be stopped, so it is outlawed. A sub-section of this rule is Rule #3.5---No Running for more then 1-2 yards with the QB when your play as been called. Some QBs can scramble for an easy 5, 6 or even 8-9 yards when the play has been picked. We don't allow this. The sportsman thing to do is to try to get back to the line of scrimmage, within 1 or 2 yards at most.

Rule #4 --- Relating to Rule #3, the Quaterback, or Running Back is not to run for a 1st down (or for a Touchdown) when the play has been called. If a 1st down is only 1 or 2 yards away the sportsman thing to do is to stop an inch before the line, or step out of bounds right before. As with Rule #3 this is not iron-clad resulting in an automatic forfeit or anything but it is strongly recommoned you comply otherwise you won't be playing much.

Rule #5 --- If you thrown a clear INT but the game doesn't register it, announce what pass play your picking and throw an interception. Clear INT means the defender is "locked-on" and in obvious position to make the pick. This should be obvious when this occurs. Boarderline picks (when the defender is not "locked-on" but is right there) are a judegment call.

Side note to Rule #5:  When there are 3 people in attendance usually the player sitting out is the offcial ref and will make all the "judgement calls" when it comes to interceptions.

Its always uncomfortable when there are only 2 people playing and something mysterious just happened and neither of the players knows what to do, it sure looked like a pick but was it really? No one can tell for sure, and as an extra bonus this always happens late in the game likely on a deciding drive so neither guy wants to make a decision to win/lose the game that way, its really no fun.  Playing with an offcial ref is always better.

Rule #6 ---  A special Rule for a special situation--- There is to be 0 throwing to inexplicabley WIDE OPEN Indy TE Pat Beach on Pass 1 when the defense has called Pass 1. In all normal circumstances every receiver is covered when the defense chooses the right play, but on Indy's Pass 1, the TE is wide open every time. The QB could throw to him for a 5 yard gain every time. This would make Indy UNstoppable, this is why it is outlawed.

The fact that Indy is UNstoppable anyways is beside the point.

These rules are only added to ensure the fairness and fun of the game.

Basically no offense could ever be stopped if they threw on jew routes all the time.  It would be totally retarded and no one would play.  Also QB running is insane especially with a fast QB.

When these rules are in place it makes it alot better and no one gets nearly as pissed.

Maybe the fact no one else seems to use these Common Sense rules is the reason that Tecmo Super Bowl is the more popular game than far superior Tecmo Bowl.

...seriously how can anyone play a game with fumbles? what happens when there is 45 seconds left and you are just running the ball to kill some clock like you should and then your pefectly good RB inexplicably fumbles.  OK so you just say its part of the game and move on because the breaks will even out over time.  But really, how many times can you say that before your head explodes or you want to kill someone.  I have played Tecmo Super before, and that exact situation has happened to me.  It is just infuriating.  And what about you are say SD and you are taking on powerhouse SF on the road.  And what if you are determined all game and you play tough and very late in teh 3rd you have a minimal leaf but then your QB spots someone wide open in the back of the endzone so he lofts it up and it goes right in his hands and he drops it?  Well ok, its SD, shit QB and shit WR, but what if it happens 3 times in the second half.  Then what do you do?!?!?!?!?! you go insane and kill everyone in a 5 mile radius.  I could not play that game seriously without having a heart attack within a month. OK i should stop now before my head does explode, just the memories are awful.

Anyways, that is why Original Tecmo Bowl is better.  No variables.  If you did what it takes to win, you win.  If you throw a pick, then you Know for damn sure you threw a pick. If you throw to a wide open reciever he catches all the time(well ok 98.5% of the time, HAHA) There is a little luck of course but at the end you really have no one to blame but yourself if you lose.
